Mike Freed, born 1955 in Winston-Salem, NC, became the pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church in 1999 following the retirement of Charles Nelson. Mike, and his wife Vera, moved to Augusta, Ga, with their two sons Luke and Samuel after being called by the Holy Spirit to depart from St. James Lutheran in Greenville, TN, to lead Ascension. 25 years and three more boys later (Benjamin, Jacob and Joshua), Pastor Freed is still faithfully shepherding the congregation that welcomed him and his family with open arms. Pastor Freed actively participates in the South Augusta Pastors Alliance as well as the Christian Ecumenical Alleluia Community in which he is a covenant member. Mike's wisdom and knowledge rooted in Christ provide a stable voice of reason and strong foundation for those around him in these ever-changing times. He enjoys reading the Word of God, conversing with friends, and enjoying the Lord's beautiful creation on his Harley.
